Guitar Learning Basics – The Fretboard

The neck of the guitar is called the fretboard. It took its name from the metal slats, frets, which divide the neck into sections. The nut is that white plastic strip at the base of the headstock.

The fret located nearest the nut is the first fret, and then it ascends to second fret, third fret, and so on. As you move up the neck to the body of the guitar, the pattern will continue. The half step is that distance between one fret and the next.

For beginners, try to start the open note of any string and move UP the neck one fret at a time and notice how the sound changes from deep to high notes. As the strings are played DOWN the neck, they start high and go down deep.Keep practicing the open note playing one fret at a time calling aloud the notes when going along so that the ear can identify just as well as the brain. You dont need a teacher, you are big enough to learn yourself. Go for online guitar lessons. Who knows you will be the next guitarist performing on live stage.
