Saying Goodbye to Booster Seats

Children below 4 feet-9 inches, between ages 4 and 8 and weigh 40 to 80 lbs. are required by law to use a booster seat in a car. The objective of a booster seat is to raise the child high enough to properly fit into an adult seat belt. How will you know if your child is ready to move out of a booster seat and start using adult seat belts?

Try to answer these questions as a child sits in a car without an infant booster seat. Do the child’s knees bend with ease on the seat’s edge? Does the adult seat belt cross over between his neck and arm? Does the child look comfortable leaning all the way back? Does the child remain relaxed seated in this manner for an extended period of time?
